Frequently Asked Questions

About our School

What ages do you serve?
We serve children ages 2 through 5 in developmentally appropriate classes designed to support learning, curiosity, and social-emotional growth.

Are you licensed?
Yes. PCP is fully licensed by the State of California (lic. #372005413) and has been accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1987, which reflects our long-standing commitment to excellence.

NAEYC accreditation reflects:

  • High-quality teaching

  • Safe and developmentally appropriate environments

  • Strong family partnerships

  • Continuous improvement

  • A deep commitment to excellence

Fewer than ten percent of preschools in the nation hold this distinction.

Are you affiliated with a church?
Yes. PCP is a ministry of Peñasquitos Lutheran Church. We welcome families from every background and uphold a culture of kindness, acceptance, and respect.

Program Options

Do you offer both morning and extended day preschool programs?
Yes. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, we will offer morning and extended day preschool options for all age groups.
Our updated program structure offers flexibility for families while preserving the rich play-based learning environment that defines our school.

What is the difference between half-day and full-day preschool?

  • Morning preschool schedule: A structured morning of learning and play from 8:30 – 11:30am

  • Extended Day preschool schedule: An extended schedule that includes deeper exploration, additional play, rest time, daily “special” experiences and a consistent rhythm that supports families who desire their children to have longer days to learn and explore. 8:30am – 3:00pm

Learning and Play

Is PCP play-based?
Yes. Our program is fully play-based. Children learn through hands-on exploration, problem solving, creativity, and social interaction. This approach supports early literacy, math, science, and social-emotional development.

Faith and Values

How do you incorporate faith?
Faith is woven naturally into each day through prayer, Bible stories, chapel, and Christ-like relationships. We focus on God’s love, kindness, and joy.

Do families need to be Christian to enroll?
No. We welcome families from all backgrounds. Our Christian identity is expressed gently and respectfully.

Safety and Classroom Environment

What is your teacher-to-child ratio?

Ratios vary by age group and consistently meet or exceed state and NAEYC standards. We maintain small group sizes to create safe, personalized learning environments.

  • Littles (2years old by September 1) and Beginners (2-1/2 years old by September 1) class ratios are 1:6, with a maximum group size of 12 children and 2 teachers.

  • Explorers (3 years old by September 1) class ratios are 1:8, with a maximum group size of 16 children and 2 teachers.

  • Private Transitional Kindergarten (4 years old by September 1) class ratios are 1:9, with a maximum group size of 18 children and 2 teachers.

 How do you handle discipline?
We use Positive Discipline, which focuses on relationships, modeling, empathy, clear expectations, and age-appropriate guidance.

How do you ensure safety on the playground?
Children play outdoors under constant supervision. The playground is inspected daily and designed to support safe, appropriate risk-taking.

Communication and Partnership

How do teachers communicate with parents?
Communication included weekly e-news with classroom and program updates, flyers, personal check-ins, scheduled conferences, and ongoing conversations at drop-off and pick-up.

How can parents be involved?
We value parent partnership and welcome volunteer involvement through classroom activities, events, and community gatherings.

Registration and Tuition

How do I register my child?
Start by scheduling a tour. After your visit, you can apply online, which is the first step to enrollment

Is there a registration fee?
Yes. The fee helps us prepare classrooms and materials for the upcoming year.
Amount: $150

When will tuition for 2026–27 be available?
Tuition information will be released soon. Our tuition reflects the value of our NAEYC accredited program, high-quality materials, low ratios, and excellent staff.
